Teacher Development
1. General Teaching Skill Development
Workshop-style training in teaching skills using child-centred methods: applicable to teaching all subjects. Training focuses on 3 areas:
- Teaching techniques and required skills
- How to create and use educational games
- Curriculum development
The Foundation has concentrated this training on primary schools because these 3 areas provide solid foundations for students to be more analytical and think for themselves.
2. English Teaching Skill Development
Workshop-style training in English teaching emphasising student participation and making learning enjoyable. Training focuses on 3 areas:
- Conversation teaching techniques
- Listening and comprehension teaching techniques
- Vocabulary teaching techniques
IT Teaching Development
When we started, only one of the primary schools we supported had computers to teach their students. The Foundation has campaigned for second-hand computers, in good working condition, from various corporations and distributed them to the schools in our programme.
Quality Teacher Programme
Though not our prime objective, we have found it necessary to sponsor supplementary teachers to certain schools to ensure that overall teaching quality improves. To date, the Foundation has provided primary schools extra teachers with English majors, where the shortage is most acute.
